Course information
Students selecting Sports Development will be required to provide evidence of high level sporting ability through an application process. This course is for students who have advanced skills in their chosen sporting area, and where time management may have become an issue due to increased training demands. The course aims to provide students with knowledge and skills to enable them to reach their potential in both their academic and sporting endeavours. As part of enrolment in this course, students are expected to represent Gungahlin College in their chosen sport.
This course will have three separate classes for students to choose from:
- Sports Development (A) - Soccer/Futsal
- Sports Development (A) - Rugby Football Codes
- Sports Development (A) - AFL/Individual athletes

Unit descriptions
Personal Development in Sport
Students will explore time-management, lifestyle balance, academic pursuits, training, work and social interactions in the context of developing and maintaining an elite athlete.
Building an Elite Athlete
Students will explore personalising programs, individual and/ or team development, nutrition, psychology and recovery in the in the context of developing and maintaining an elite athlete.
Athletes in Society
Students will explore issues in sport, drugs, community expectations of athletes, as well as community, national and global environments in the context of developing and maintaining an elite athlete.
Performance Analysis
Students will explore technology in sport, injury management and prevention, biomechanics, tactics, game analysis and feedback in the context of developing and maintaining an elite athlete.
