'Cause we got love… Jessica Mauboy, Eurovision grand finalist
As I write, Gungahlin College student Jessica Storrar (one of the two student representatives on our College Board) is winging her way to the USA with the CSIRO as part of her National Indigenous Student STEM award. This award is sponsored by BHP Billiton and was awarded to Jessica by Minister Berry last week. At the same time, I’m listening to another one of our Gungahlin College student leaders, Isaac Martin, who is giving an ABC radio interview on youth issues. These students are brilliant examples of the quality and passion we see in our students every day!
Listening to ‘student voice’ is an important part of the new pastoral care program at Gungahlin College this year. How do we do that? We ask and we listen – at Board meetings, Student Leadership meetings, House meetings, Opt In sessions and daily in classes. Student wellbeing, learning and ultimate success is at the centre of the all the work we do.
Warmest regards
Heather

CARD CASTLE

- Where: Everywhere
- Who: Everyone
- Why: To celebrate diversity and our school community
- What: It is an interactive art installation (see below) that ran during Enlightened this year at the Old Parliament House. The kind folks from MOAD have offered to help facilitate and has supplied us with the tools needed for this amazing installation.
- How: Choose one of seven cards, each has a different word on it (Hope, Community, Diversity, Trust, Courage, Kindness, Curiosity). Write a message on the back of the card relating to that word. Connect that card to other cards to form a Card Castle! Walk around the castle once it is formed and read the messages from our diverse school community!
We need volunteers to help facilitate this project! If you would like to assist, please contact Betty Chau.
